Breakfast

Locally sourced ingredients

We like to use fresh, locally sourced, in-season ingredients wherever possible, so this means the breakfast menu tends to change from time to time depending on what we have at our fingertips.

When the home orchard and gardens are being good to us, we use home-grown figs, peaches, plums, apples, citrus and other varieties of fruit.  Provided the chickens aren’t on winter strike, turning broody or rearing young, the home-laid, organic, free range eggs are a real treat.  There’s nothing better than a fresh-poached egg laid only the day before or on the morning of your meal.

Honey comes direct from the two on-site beehives, with bee forage fed from a range of nectar sources, from local Manuka groves, to borage, comfrey flowers, orchard blossom and even the odd rogue thistle or gorse shrub for added flavour.

While we do make standard commercial milk available at breakfast, those who are after an authentic taste of countryside New Zealand have the choice of fresh, unprocessed milk from one of the local dairy farms where the cows are fully free-roaming on lush, green pasture.

Tea and coffee is available of course, with a choice of premium blend Harney & Sons and other brews for tea buffs.  For coffee, you have a choice of plunger-brewed organic, fair trade coffee from the renowned Nelson-based coffee roasting and blending team at Zumo, or an espresso-based coffee for a wake-up zap.

Choose from a selection of premium juices, which we do our best to squeeze fresh that day when the home orchard trees are in-season.

Options

Special options and extras tend to change from week to week as produce is available and in-season, but the regular staples include a range of continental-style items to choose from, and fresh-cooked café-style breakfast options.

We can make special arrangements with you if required on departure day, but generally serve breakfast between 8.00am and 10.00am.
